A #research team conducted focus group interviews with faculty and staff at the Mongolian University of Science and #Technology (MUST) and developed a new gender equality index to ascertain the status of gender equality in the country’s higher #education institutions. The study found that #genderequality among MUST teachers, staff, and students was above average, but it needed improvement in #management councils and #leadership positions. It proposes strategies to enhance gender equality at the student, teaching staff, and #governance levels. 🟠 READ https://buff.ly/3VSBXqa #SDG4 #SDG5 #SDG10 Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center, Ankhbayar Begz (Paul Anka), Christine Min Wotipka, Risako Ninomiya, Jieun Song

“There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not lead single-issue lives.” Audre Lorde 1982. The theme of today’s International Women’s Day is #InspireInclusion. I urge us all to include sexual and gender health and well-being in any workforce strategy. Workplace #Diversity & #Inclusion should say Diversity & ‘Included’ to recognise the multiple factors that overlap and intersect resulting in progression for some and reduced opportunities for others. Our culture has thankfully given parity to mental health alongside physical health, however, the absence of #sexualreproductivehealth and acknowledgement of gender issues is discriminatory and is limiting development. If we want to recruit a diverse #workforce and nurture them to lead we need to embed #equality in all decision-making to address the extra barriers that #sex, #gender, #race, #ethnicity, #ability, #identity, #culture, #lifecoursestatus, #age, #location, #language, #economicstatus, #health, #migrantstatus, #home, #religion, #faith #intersectionality #allincluded We need #GenderMainstreaming #iwd2024 #HappyInternationalWomen’sDay2024 https://lnkd.in/evdNUDB6

Our team recently visited Nyasore Primary School in Homabay County to discuss the implementation of the Leading Learning for Gender Equality (LL4GE) program. During our field monitoring visits, we were joined by representatives from the British Council. We had meaningful conversations with school leaders and instructional leaders about their progress in addressing gender issues, the challenges they face, their achievements, and the support they need. The LL4GE project, spearheaded by the British Council in collaboration with Dignitas Project, aims to empower instructional leaders by developing their expertise in tackling gender inequalities. This initiative equips them with the necessary skills, strategies, tools, and approaches to promote gender-responsive pedagogy in schools. One key takeaway is the importance of tailoring interventions to address the specific gender-related gaps in each school. [event report] At the roundtable discussion "Promoting Gender Equality in Academic Appointments" held at Dokkyo University on 22 November, stakeholders of Japanese and German academic institutions came together to discuss the current situation and critical issues of gender equality in academic positions. The ratio of female to male in full professorships has gradually improved in both Germany and Japan, and the speakers introduced specific examples of how they have dealt with this. However, the panel also agreed that the situation varies between different research fields and that further promotion of diversity is necessary. The event was organized by 獨協大学 (Dokkyo University), Hochschulrektorenkonferenz, DWIH Tokyo (German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo) in cooperation with Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation / DFG Japan and DAAD Tokyo.
