The state of men's health is in a crisis. That's why The Healthonauts 🧔♀️ 🧔♂️ support Movember, the health charity addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men: ❗ prostate cancer ❗ testicular cancer ❗ mental health and suicide prevention. Some facts about men's health, as pointed out by https://lnkd.in/ezsKT_4f: 👉 Gender is one of the strongest and most consistent predictors of health and life expectancy. On average, across the world, men die 6 years earlier than women. 👉 75% of suicides are by men. 👉 The impact of prostate and testicular cancer on lives is huge. Worldwide, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide. Early diagnosis is key! So, gentlemen, please - attend to your health checkup appointments. And ladies - stand by your men and make sure they see their HCPs regularly. #movember #menshealth #support

Anybody seen Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday? We're coming to the end of men's health awareness week. This year the initiative places emphasis on prostate health. "On the day after his announcement (King Charles), there were 16,410 visits to the relevant National Health Service website page compared with 1,414 visits the previous day. Prostate Cancer UK saw an almost doubling in the numbers of users of its online risk checker. This goes to show the difference that honest sharing can make" One of the areas I specialise in within the Health Coaching remit is cancer, and using health coaching methodologies to support people who have received a diagnosis. I've worked with 2 men in the last 12 months with prostate cancer so I know a lot about it from their personal perspectives. No two stories are the same. Let me tell you - they wish they had the reach of King Charles has in terms of raising awareness, encouraging conversations and removing stigma. So men, on behalf of my 2 clients - please familiarise yourselves as a top priority! Ask your colleagues, neighbours, family - "have you been checked? "Are you aware of the symptoms and that stats?". Employers and business owners, is this topic part of your health and well-being offering? Raising awareness, talks, panel discussions? I encourage you to add it, if it's not already. We're all responsible for raising awareness at our level. No need to be shy about it, just ask. Your ask may save the future course & direction of another persons life. Movember is more than just growing a mustache; it's about promoting longer, healthier lives for men. In the United States, men face a significant gap in life expectancy compared to women, with men dying about six years earlier on average. Heart disease and cancer stand as the leading causes of death for men, with tobacco use, unhealthy weight, and alcohol consumption ranking as the top risky behaviors. The global Movember campaign challenges men to embrace facial hair during November, aiming to raise awareness about prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health issues. Encouraging open conversations about health is a key focus, urging men to engage with healthcare providers and support each other. To support men's health, here are some essential tips: - Know your numbers and risks: Discuss prostate health with your provider, especially if you're 50 or older. Black men and those with family histories of prostate cancer are at higher risk. - Help your heart and stay active: Maintain a healthy weight, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels. Incorporate more physical activity into your daily routine. - Be aware of testicular health: Regularly check your testicles and seek medical advice if something feels unusual. - Stay connected and communicate: Regularly connect with friends, offer support during tough times, and prioritize meaningful conversations. - Seek assistance: For tobacco cessation support, reach out through various channels. If dealing with substance use or addiction, Oregon's 24/7 Alcohol & Drug Helpline offers compassionate help and local resources. For additional support, Oregon Health & Science University provides a virtual monthly support group for men impacted by prostate cancer. Contact 503-346-0548 or email christc@ohsu.edu for more information. Let's work together to prioritize men's health and well-being. #Movember #MensHealth

Planning Ahead Can Make a Difference Unexpected health issues like cancer, heart attacks, or strokes can disrupt your life plans. In Canada, 1 in 2 men and 1 in 2.2 women will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. The good news? More people are surviving these illnesses than ever before—60% of Canadians with cancer, 95% of those who experience heart attacks, and over 80% of those who have strokes. While survival rates are improving, the road to recovery can still be challenging and costly. Planning ahead and securing coverage for critical illness can ease the financial burden, allowing you to focus on recovery without worrying about your savings. Take steps now to protect yourself and your family’s future. Don’t wait for the unexpected to derail your life plans. #CriticalIllness #HealthInsurance #FinancialPlanning #ProtectYourFuture #CancerAwareness #Healthcare #RecoveryPlanning #Wellbeing #FamilyProtection

Understanding the Human Impact of Macular Disease The latest survey conducted by Macular Disease Foundation Australia in 2023 sheds light on the experiences of nearly 2,000 individuals living with macular disease. This comprehensive survey delves into mental health, barriers to persisting with anti-VEGF injections, and low vision aids and technology. Key learnings included: · Mental wellbeing challenges affect over 15% of respondents, with one in five requiring support · 3% of people with neovascular AMD forego recommended eye injections · 10% cite cost as a barrier to treatment, and · Despite 70% recognising the value of low vision aids, accessibility remains a hurdle. Macular Disease Foundation Australia has launched Eye Connect – a support service for people living with AMD, which helps address these key learnings. Consider referring your AMD patients to this valuable service. Read more on MDFA’s website. https://lnkd.in/g6KQupAX Macular Disease Foundation Australia Kathy Chapman #EyeConnect #MDFA #AMD

Movember is here, and it's time to put men's health in the spotlight! This global campaign encourages people to raise awareness and funds for critical men’s health issues, including mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Research shows that men are, on average, dying 4.5 years earlier than women, often from preventable causes. Globally, around 10.8 million men are living with prostate cancer, and testicular cancer remains the most common cancer among young men. By engaging with the cause, we can contribute to essential conversations and initiatives that aim to improve men's health outcomes. Join 18WS in amplifying Movember's message: promoting awareness, encouraging preventive care, and providing support for men’s health, both inside and outside the workplace. March is Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Month -Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune condition affecting the central nervous system, impacting nearly 1 million people in the U.S. It leads to a wide array of symptoms, including fatigue, mobility issues, and visual disturbances, due to the immune system attacking the myelin sheath of nerve fibers. MS predominantly affects individuals between 20 and 50 years old, with women being two to three times more likely than men to develop the disease. Additionally, research indicates that the prevalence of MS is higher among veterans than in the general population; The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recognizes MS as a potential service-connected condition, particularly for those diagnosed within 7 years of discharge. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is one of the largest providers of MS care worldwide and has established Multiple Sclerosis Centers of Excellence (MSCoE) to provide focused care and support for veterans with MS, reflecting the acknowledged need within the veteran community. While there is no cure yet, strides in research and treatment are offering hope and improving quality of life. By raising awareness, we can foster understanding, encourage early diagnosis, and support research towards finding a cure. Whether you know someone with MS, are living with it yourself, or simply wish to contribute to a world free of MS, The Northeast Chapter of IARP, encourages all to look for ways to participate in Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month. There are countless ways to participate, community awareness events, donating to an MS-related organization of choice, or just becoming more educated on the disease and how the disease impacts those diagnosed. #vocationalrehabilitation #lifecareplanning #msawareness #IARP

This week is #menshealthweek. The theme for this year is: Men don't talk. The day after King Charles announced that he had a problem with an enlarged prostate, there were 16,410 visits to the relevant National Health Service website page compared with 1,414 visits the previous day. Prostate Cancer UK saw an almost doubling in the numbers of users of its online risk checker. The shocking statistics tell us why Men’s Health Week is so important: * One man in five dies before the age of 65. * 115 people die by suicide in the UK every week – with 75% of those deaths being male (ONS) * More than 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year in the UK on average – that's 144 men every day. (Prostate Cancer UK) * 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime (Prostate Cancer UK) * Only 36% of all NHS referrals for psychological therapies are for men. Men are less likely to seek help for their mental health. (Mental Health UK) As Investors in People, Gold Award holders, we acknowledge that our people are our most important asset; offering support in many different forms, with ongoing training and a safe and happy working environment just a few of the reasons why. #construction #mhw24 #menshealth #mentalhealthatwork #prostatecancer #healthinconstruction #MensHealth #SuicidePrevention #ProstateCancerAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #youarenotalone
