Last week, I had the privilege of visiting Saudi Arabia to attend the 2024 Global AI Summit and participate in the launch of a groundbreaking report titled “The Economic Impact of Generative AI: The Future of Work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.” Commissioned by Microsoft and developed by Access Partnership, this report delves into the transformative potential of generative AI for Saudi Arabia’s economy, workforce, and public sector. It also highlights the potential of generative AI to boost productivity and outlines strategic policy frameworks to harness AI's benefits, increase access and adoption, mitigate risks, and foster innovation. My involvement underscores Microsoft’s larger effort to support the advancement of Saudi Arabia’s AI agenda and our commitment to foster collaboration between government, private companies, and academic institutions. Working with talented #TunisianStudents from 𝐈𝐀𝐒 (Industry Applications Society) and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) was truly inspiring. The energy, engagement, and curiosity of the participants were remarkable, and together we explored how generative AI is transforming industries worldwide. Here are some key takeaways: 1. 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞: Participants were amazed at how AI is accelerating drug discovery and revolutionizing personalized medicine. AI-driven innovation is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in patient care. 2. 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: We discussed how AI is not only enhancing fraud detection but also improving trading strategies and creating seamless customer experiences. The finance sector is harnessing AI to drive smarter decisions and efficiency. 3. 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥: Personalization was the buzzword here. The students explored how AI optimizes customer journeys, helping businesses understand and predict consumer behavior like never before. 4. 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: The potential of AI in product design and supply chain optimization was a hot topic, with real-world examples showcasing significant cost reductions and efficiency improvements. 5. 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: From AI-generated art to immersive gaming experiences, the creative possibilities of generative AI are endless. Participants were excited about how AI is enhancing creativity and innovation in this space. 6. 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲: The conversation shifted to sustainability, where AI-powered predictions are improving efficiency and creating smarter, more sustainable energy solutions. The interactive Q&A session was one of the highlights—participants asked insightful questions about integrating AI into their industries and overcoming the common challenges they might face and what will the future look like in terms job needs for 2027 and beyond. A special thank you to Nada Saidani for making this session possible and for bridging the gap between students and industry professionals. The session truly underscored the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in an AI-driven world. The future is bright, and generative AI is just getting started! It was an honor to be part of such a forward-thinking discussion.
