"If we don't assign responsibility, it's just more of the same," says John Gertsakis from Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence. At next week’s Environment Ministers' Meeting, we urge The Hon Tanya Plibersek and Australia's State & Territory Environment Ministers to progress stronger regulations and policies that will achieve much better outcomes for Australia's used tyres. Listen to the Think: Sustainability podcast to hear how a fully regulated product stewardship scheme can help tackle the 550,000 tonnes of used tyres generated annually in Australia. Expert guests John Gertsakis from Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence, Paul Randell from Randell Environment Consulting, and Dr Linda Mitchell from Tyre Stewardship Australia discuss how collaboration between industry, government, and consumers can drive the shift towards a circular economy, reducing waste and creating a more sustainable future. John Gertsakis: “We can only go so far with voluntary approaches to product stewardship...” Paul Randell: “We all pay for this inefficiency...” Linda Mitchell: “We’ve done a lot with a voluntary scheme, but there’s (still) a long way to go to fix this challenge.” Tune in to the full episode to hear how product stewardship is paving the way for lasting environmental impact: https://lnkd.in/e37HAmrM Sam Loy | Lawrence B.| 2ser | John Gertsakis | RANDELL ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING | Tanya Plibersek | Steve Dimopoulos | ROGER JAENSCH | Penny Sharpe | Kate Worden. We are Australia's tyre product steward. We help drive sustainable outcomes for end-of-life tyres.
About us
This is the official LinkedIn page of Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA), the not-for-profit organisation established to deliver the national Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) for Australia. TSA is currently funded by a voluntary levy from contributing tyre importers and auto brands who are committed to supporting sustainable outcomes for Australia’s end-of-life tyres. Our aim is to increase resource recovery and minimise the environmental, social and health risks associated with end-of-life tyres in Australia. TSA accredits over 1,700 participants across the tyre value chain, including tyre retailers, recyclers and collectors, local councils, fleet providers and manufacturers who are committed to supporting the objectives of the Scheme. TSA also invests in market development initiatives, including research and development of new productive uses for end-of-life tyres. Through innovation, new jobs and markets are created to develop Australia’s tyre recycling industry and accelerate our circular economy. Together, we are reinventing the wheel.

It's all hands on deck at the John Landy Athletics Field! 🔨 The redevelopment of the Geelong Region's athletics track is in its final stages, with the project expected to be completed within the coming weeks. The redevelopment will use more than 50 tonnes of recycled rubber as part of upgrades, from end-of-life truck tyres. CEO of City of Greater Geelong, Ali Wastie, has stated that the use of recyclable materials in Council projects is an ongoing priority: "Our Environment Strategy promotes a circular economy through sustainable procurement practices, supports new and existing markets for recovered resources, and promotes increased use of recycled materials in road, building and other infrastructure constructions.” Read more about the John Landy Redevelopment Project here: https://lnkd.in/e4abmVTr Image credit: Geelong Athletics
