Like many communities worldwide, the #Massaha community in northeast #Gabon has nurtured and sustained its customary lands and sacred forests through cultural practices for generations.
#WATCH: A powerful new documentary highlights RRI’s project in Gabon, supported by its CLARIFI funding mechanism, and its innovative approach to rights-based #conservation. The film shows how Indigenous Peoples and local communities can protect ecosystems and store carbon without relying on traditional protected areas. It delves into the efforts and achievements of the #Massaha community, who, with support from the Nsombou Abalghe-Dzal Association (#NADA), successfully advocated for the right to protect their ancestral forest. Their resilience and leadership are proof that community-led conservation, especially with participation of women, can drive real change for both people and the planet. This work is advancing the global goal of 30% nature conservation by 2030, showing that local communities, particularly women, are central to a sustainable future. 🌱 Watch by clicking below! https://lnkd.in/erKWXEpT #REPALEAC, #IfNotUsThenWho, Global Alliance of Territorial Communities, Bezos Earth Fund

#COP16Colombia In the news: ICCA Consortium President Luis Guillermo Izquierdo on the creation of a Subsidiary Body of the Convention on Biological Diversity to advise on the implementation of Article 8J for Indigenous Peoples and local communities 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gDtUsgSW "The simple creation of the subsidiary body is not going to solve the situation and the thousands of problems that we suffer in our territories. However, we see that this agreement allows us to strengthen our presence in major decisions and thus be able to propose actions more in line with our realities. This will help us safeguard and protect the ancestral land and traditional knowledge of our indigenous peoples and local communities."
