Sprouting is a very important industrial solution for addressing the antinutrients in seeds: cyanide, phytic acid, leptins and saponins. Cyanide is a strong poison and is present in flaxseeds and green peas. Phytic acid is abundant in most legumes and many grains. It can lock up high percentages of phosphorus, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and zinc. Just google other antinutrient and watch out for food hazards. Eat sprouted. Stay safe

The king is dead, long live the king? While standard vertical farming is giving up its "Hope Cup", the new generation of urban farming is on its way, we believe. It might need a different deal with the plant kingdom though. While working on sketching the concept of Dynamic Sprouting technology in 2020-2022, we deeply felt one thing: we cannot and should not think we can or even should try overplaying God... we can only learn to discover and integrate better combinations of the laws of physics, chemistry, biology, math.... (not necessarily the well studied /well known ones, but all!). The most brilliant sales system and the most powerful investments won't compensate the product's failure to perform on its promises... That's where the innovation should be - at the crossover of natural sciences. And then the AI and other perfectionism oriented matrices can do an even better execution of all the functions once integrated and deployed in a due manner with the right intentions. 🥬 💥 Bowery Farming, a former indoor farming unicorn in shutting down 🇺🇸 Bowery Farming, once a prominent vertical farming startup, is ceasing operations. 💰 It had raised about $700 million in funding from very well-known funds and celebrities (Nathalie Portman, Justin Timberlake) and was valued at more than $2 billion in 2021. 🥬 It produced producing lettuces, herbs, and berries using vertical farming . This follows other failures such as AeroFarms, AppHarvest (both going bankrupt) or INFARM. This is again a blow to the vertical farming ecosystem which has not been doing well for the past three years due to higher-than-anticipated energy costs, diminishing VC funding... and frankly speaking disapointing results in terms of technology progress to scale the production. Most of the "failed" startups were overfunded and have grown too fast with unproven tech. However, even if the hype is over, it is not the end for vertical farming. The conditions of its rise are even truer today than they were a few years ago: - propable decline in energy costs in the future - increasing extreme climate events combined with declining access to resources such as water - increasing pressure for local sourcing for food both from consumers combined with tougher regulation on immigration for low-skilled jobs (which make the bulk of the work in agriculture). 👉 Link to the article in the first comment #agtech #verticalfarming #indoorfarming #failure

In seed sprouting mycotoxins are also a problem! Contaminated seeds are common, unfortunately. In Sprout Dynamics we run seed quality tests before approving them for sprouting. A minimal quality test includes fungi and mycotoxins and all major bacterial pathogens.
MYCOTOXINS / AFLATOXINS / OCHRATOXINS WATCH OUT Did you know that ginger is one of the most frequent spices disqualified by the FDA and European import authorities due to high content of mycotoxins? Over 300 types of mycotoxins have been identified so far, including the notable aflatoxin and ochratoxin often present in ginger. Primarily in its skin. If you are interested in learning to peel ginger correctly to avoid up to 90% of possible mycotoxins, please comment below 👇 Mycotoxins drastically suppress the immune system. And a single mycotoxin, even in minute quantities, can result in acute poisoning in humans and animals. So yes, it is an important factor to study when you are a ginger fan and eat ginger regularly!
