Ridge Planning and Engineering Delivers Innovative Solutions for Hummingbird Hollow Another exciting update from the Ridge Planning & Engineering team! We are providing comprehensive civil engineering design for Hummingbird Hollow, a new Lennar community located at the intersection of Bass Cross Road & Mountville Road in Hogansville, GA. This project presented unique environmental considerations due to the presence of creeks, wetlands, and floodplains on site. The Ridge team meticulously designed the site to prioritize and minimize environmental impacts, ensuring sustainable development while preserving the natural beauty of the area. This included careful grading, drainage, utility, erosion control, and tree protection plans. As the first sewered project in the drainage basin, Hummingbird Hollow required a lift station designed to accommodate future growth in Hogansville. Our team's forward-thinking approach ensures efficient wastewater management for the expanding community. It’s where engineering meets art—ensuring the right materials, costs, and resources align seamlessly. 💡 🔍 Supervision and Inspections: On-site supervision was my compass. I ensured quality, safety, and adherence to specifications. Inspecting each milestone, I felt the pride of progress. 📏 🌟 Gratitude and Growth: Community development projects taught me resilience, empathy, and adaptability. Colas Ltd, is proud to announce its collaboration with Leeds City Council to sponsor the educational children's book, “Cones and Making Choices,” authored by Chris Madeley. The book highlights the diverse career paths available in construction for all children, regardless of gender or background. Featuring contributions from Whinmoor St. Paul’s Primary School and Leeds College of Building, the book aims to engage and inspire young learners as they explore the exciting possibilities within the industry. In this story, the cones go to a primary school and overhear a conversation which leads them to the Leeds College of Building. At the college, they encounter Ayo, a female student and aspiring civil engineer. Readers are invited to experience her visit to Colas, where she encounters a character inspired by the Colas team, and Josie, one of Leeds City Council’s civil engineers. During this visit, she learns more about the crucial role that civil engineering plays in shaping communities and building infrastructure. On Tuesday 19th November, Colas hosted the launch of the new book at the Leeds College of Building alongside Lord Mayor of Leeds, Abigail Marshall Katung, Chris Madeley, and Sinead Clarkson, ambassador of The National Association of Women in Construction. Diversity within the construction industry is essential, which is why we are delighted to celebrate Construction Anglia's Women in Construction event, held last month as part of the West Suffolk Business Festival. This inspiring event aimed to motivate students by showcasing visible role models while fostering an inclusive Women in Construction community across the East of England. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as nearly 100 attendees gathered to gain valuable insights from guest speaker Siu Mun Li, Director of the Temporary Works Forum and CITB’s Most Influential Woman in Construction 2023. Siu Mun Li led a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring esteemed industry professionals, including Fran Dinsdale (DPL Group), Richmal Hardinge (Castons Artelia Group), Averil Young (West Suffolk College), Natalie Clifton (MACE/Sizewell), and former student Kynleigh Parker, now a Trainee Assistant at Lovell. Organised by Clare Yelland (nee Friel), Managing Director of Marketing Agency Friel and industry news outlet Construction Anglia, the event offered a unique opportunity for attendees to engage with accomplished professionals, hear their journeys, and gain inspiration for their own careers. Students and aspiring industry members were able to connect with leaders who exemplify success and resilience in the construction field, while also contributing to a stronger sense of community and collaboration. This event not only celebrated the achievements of women in construction but also highlighted the importance of representation, mentorship, and the creation of inclusive spaces where talent can thrive. Hoffman Women in Construction: Kerry Hunt, Field Office Manager. Kerry Hunt has been a Field Office Manager in Boise, Idaho for two years. Prior to that she worked for TDX Power Services, a heavy civil construction company. Kerry enjoys being in the field and working with Hoffman crew members and subcontractors; her hope is that she makes other peoples' work easier. Q: What are some of the challenges you’ve overcome being a woman in construction? A: Not being taken seriously. Q: How has the field of construction changed for women in the past few years? A: I see more and more women becoming project managers, project engineers, and superintendents than in the past with increased opportunities to excel. Q: Do you have any advice for younger women contemplating a career in construction? A: If construction is what they are interested in then they need to go for it.
