🌍 The European POWERINGCITIZENS Project Continues! The European Union is stepping up its commitment to promoting policies and projects that focus more closely on climate issues and their connection to energy needs. The #POWERINGCITIZENS project, funded by the #Rights, #Equality, and #Citizenship (#CERV) Programme, aims to combat energy poverty across #Europe and the Western Balkans. This initiative equips young #energyadvisors and citizens affected by energy poverty with the knowledge and tools needed to actively engage in energy decision-making. It also raises community awareness about energy rights, strategies to manage costs, reduce consumption, and access support systems—all with the goal of fostering a fair and inclusive energy transition. ➡️ Project Highlights 🔹 Duration: 24 months (starting June 1, 2024) 🔹 Consortium: 7 EU organizations + 1 organization from the Western Balkans 🔹 Beneficiaries: 200+ citizens and 200 families ➡️ Goals 🔹 Map community energy needs 🔹 Provide tailored advice on energy savings 🔹 Raise awareness of energy rights and responsible energy use 📅 SAVE THE DATE From January 14 to 16, 2025, the @DIISM, in Aula B+ at @Università Politecnica delle Marche, will host an international training course for new energy advisors, featuring speakers and young participants from across Europe. "Through active consumer participation, we can build a more sustainable future for all," says our Rector, Prof. Gian Luca Gregori. 🔗 For more information, contact Prof. Gabriele Comodi (g.comodi@univpm.it) or Dr. Mosè Rossi (mose.rossi@staff.univpm.it). #International #InternationalProjects #European #EuropeanFundings #Sustainability #EnergyTransition

📣 New interview! Sofia-Natalia Boemi shares her expertise on the energy transition with the #JUSTEM project. As the Head of the Energy and Climate Action Department in Western Macedonia, Sofia-Natalia Boemi has extensive experience working in just transition regions. Her field experience provides valuable insights into implementing fair transition strategies on the ground. 💡 #JUSTEM picked her brain on the importance of education in empowering communities as they transition away from fossil fuels and as a strategy to tackle energy poverty 📚 . "Education must serve as a tool for social mobility, enabling individuals to break out of cycles of poverty." 🔎 Sofia-Natalia was also one of the people involved in setting up Greece’s first one-stop-shop for energy poverty. One-stop shops serve as community-centered hubs, they can help get everyone on board with the just transition and ensure no one is left behind. She shared her views on how these initiatives can be a real catalyst for community empowerment and leadership and what, in her opinion, is an essential ingredient for their long-term success. ➡️ Want to know more? Yesterday's session on "Innovative Financing Options and Private Capital for Energy Transition in Cities" spotlighted how cities can embrace new funding models as traditional subsidies phase out. To achieve their net-zero goals, cities are exploring financing tools like citizen finance, green bonds, and energy performance contracts (EPCs). This shift allows cities to utilise diverse tools to power sustainability without reinventing the wheel. 🌍 Building Synergy with EU Initiatives Georg Houben, Policy Officer at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy, highlighted how EU programs like NetZeroCitiesEU, the Smart Cities Mission, and the Covenant of Mayors - Europe are bridging the gap to help cities access and leverage funding more efficiently. 🔑 Support and Capacity Building Speakers shared practical examples from Warsaw’s funding alignment strategies to private investment pathways, as presented by BwB. Sylwia Słomiak from Eurocities also underscored the value of multilingual support in enhancing financing access across Europe. Learn more about the conclusions of this session here: #EUSmartCities

🤔 What opportunities exist for greater justice in the #Colombia energy transition process? ⚡ In Colombia, there is a yawning gap in energy access. 💡While Colombia’s #energysystem work well for those connected in the country’s main cities, it was not designed to be equitable⚖. 📚 In our newly published report, two of our Colombia team members Katherine Bain and Jorge Florez Herrera explore the political settlement analysis of #Colombia and its energy sectors ➡ https://lnkd.in/dNaVMJtQ 📌 At Governance Action Hub, our ultimate goal in #Colombia is to see a significant reduction in energy poverty through new forms of renewable energy; help improve energy access, affordability, and reliability; and promote greater agency for local actors to steward their own economic and social development processes. 🤝 💪🏾 We hope the combination of support for local collective action, targeted support for the government, generation of evidence and public narratives, and our participation in a broad ecosystem of local stewards and allies will lead to sustainable improvements in development outcomes and more inclusive governance at scale. #EnergyTransition #PoliticalEconomyAnalysis #Colombia #JustEnergyTransition #EnergyCommunities

Last week, we had the honor of hosting a Canadian delegation of CEOs from Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Prince Edward Island. A big thank you to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and State of Green Denmark for making the visit happen! It’s always exciting to share our approach and see how our ideas resonate internationally, and the delegation’s curiosity and enthusiasm were truly inspiring. On our tour of our park, we had some great conversations about: 🔋 How to optimise energy sharing in communities 🔥 Turning waste energy into new opportunities 🌱 Giving residual resources a second life instead of letting them go to waste One of the key takeaways was how local communities hosting renewable energy can directly benefit from green industrial clusters. By connecting industries, sharing energy, and utilising resources more efficiently, these communities can create jobs, retain economic value locally, and reduce environmental impact. It’s a win-win for the environment and for the people who live and work in these regions. Thank you to everyone who joined us for an insightful day! We’re looking forward to keeping the conversation going and hopefully seeing some of these ideas take shape in Canada too.
