Exploring BioFi Project as part of the exploration of alternative futures and models for the web3 Reimagining Power Project. A new type of financial institution designed to serve the bioregional movement. "BFFs can drive the decentralization of financial resource governance, aggregation of synergistic portfolios of projects, and the transition to a regenerative economy – becoming the connective tissue between financial resources and on-the-ground regenerators. 🌊 A few days ago, I had the opportunity to make a presentation to the WA4STEAM Business Angels Association about the Blue Economy. I underlined its main sectors, key players (both national and international), and the emerging innovation trends driving growth across the industry. 💸 In this session, I explored the most promising investment opportunities, especially in blue biotechnology and marine renewable energy. My focus was on innovation and investment, where I highlighted the latest trends, spotlighted the most innovative sectors and companies (marine renewable energy, blue biotechnologies, sustainable aquaculture, ocean observation, marine robotics and desalinisation), and reviewed the top investment funds making an impact in the Blue Economy (VC, BA, PE...). We discussed where these funds are allocating their resources (primarily in M&A and early-stage investments) and the reason for that kind of allocation and it possibilities. Funds like Katapult Ocean, PortXL, Norrsken VC, BlueBioValue, B2E Blue Bioeconomy CoLAB and Faber portfolio and investments patterns where evaluated. 📊 Additionally, we broke down insights from critical industry reports like the Blue Economy Report and the Blue Invest Investors Report, offering a detailed and critical view of what’s driving this exciting sector forward. I would like to thank WA4STEAM for the invitation to share my insights with such an amazing group of investors! #BlueEconomy #Innovation #Investment #Sustainability #MarineEnergy #BlueBiotechnology

🌳 The habitat helps us COLLABORATE on societal innovation by facilitating innovation processes, in that way coordinating collective efforts. The habitat facilitates dialogue and partnerships among various stakeholders, such as local governments, businesses, NGOs, and community groups. By doing so, it helps to bridge gaps, reduce silos, and enhance the COHESION of the bioregional ecosystem. The habitat helps different groups within the bioregion to understand complex issues, share insights, and develop visions. This includes collecting data, documenting practices, and sharing insights. This LEARNING is essential for building local resilience, enabling communities to approach locally unique challenges. The habitat unblocks FLOW towards regeneration by rewilding the streams of resources, including funding, knowledge, and other forms of support, across the ecosystem. This includes identifying and connecting funding sources with needs. The habitat keeps PURPOSE at the core of work as intended consequence of its organizational design. 🌳🌳🌳 The habitat is a societal learning concept and an entrepreneurship innovation research project.

Probably one of the most exciting and holistic approach re regeneration !!! The BioFi Project (BioFi for BIOregional FInance for Planetary Regeneration) is a collective supporting bioregions to design, build, and implement Bioregional Financing Facilities (BFFs) that connect financial resources and regenerators. In other words, connecting the flows of capital to the flows of life. Their goal is to ensure that every bioregion on Earth gets a BFF to support its transition to a regenerative economy – so that finance can serve life. BFFs - true decentralized autonomous organizations aka DAOs - drive the decentralisation of financial resource governance, the design of project portfolios for systemic change, and the transition to a regenerative economy at the bioregional scale. A BFF is based on 4 elements : - a Bioregional Trust acting is a catalytic grant fund that raises philanthropic and public grant capital as well as receive individual donations (including crowdfunding) - a Bioregional Venture Studio is a public benefit corporation, co-operative, steward-owned entity that supports the development of a cohort of synergistic regeneration Initiatives by investing in and incubating cohorts of early-stage organizations that work together to change a specific system - a Bioregional Investment Company is a public benefit corporation, co-operative, steward-owned entity that develops a portfolio of Systemic Investment Funds and Bioregional Regeneration Bonds. - a Bioregional Bank provides low-interest loans, microloans, lines of credit, and technical assistance to aligned organizations. It can also provide retail banking services to individuals and can develop and issue a complementary or nature-based currency Want to know more ? https://lnkd.in/eq4GuPMs The BioFi Project also published a free e-book, "Bioregional Financing Facilities: Reimagining Finance to Regenerate Our Planet" that lays out the rationale behind this approach and related templates. A must read !

### EVENT ### We are delighted to share that PRONOE was selected as one of the 5 finalists for the #BlueInvest Days competition in Category 1: Net Zero, Ocean Pollution, and Water Management Solutions! Have a look at our fellow ocean startup finalists: Finsulate BV, Hefring Marine, ICODOS, and Pinovo. Beyond the opportunity to showcase our project and get feedback from some of the most ocean-savvy investors in Europe 🌊 (including the EU 🇪🇺, and our friends from Norway 🇳🇴 and the UK 🇬🇧), this selection shows two things in our opinion: 🎯 STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT AT EU LEVEL Selection by the committee signals profound alignment with the EU strategic objectives linked to the oceans, the blue economy, Net Zero Goals, and water management solutions. The representation will include #DGMare executives. 💸 INVESTMENT APPETITE On top of the 50+ private investors, VCs, and funds represented at the event, EU institutional investors and Financiers will have representation, including the European Investment Fund (EIF) and European Investment Bank (EIB). The #EIB is actively looking to scale up technologies, projects, and infrastructures across Europe. We are looking forward to meaningful connections in the Royal Library of Belgium in Brussels! 📚🇧🇪 #blueeconomy #BlueInvestDays #EUGreenDeal #BeGreenGoBlue #ocean #cdr

On this summer Solstice and Strawberry Moon, I could not be more excited to share the launch of the book 'Bioregional Financing Facilities: Reimagining Finance to Regenerate Our Planet' that I have been working on for the past 9 months with my amazing co-author Leon Seefeld of Dark Matter Labs and incredible support from Tyler Wakefield, Nick Paul, and our team of advisors (tagged in comments). In this publication, we make the case for a new layer in the global financial architecture of Bioregional Financing Facilities (BFFs) to serve every bioregion on Earth. BFFs are a new type of financial institution that has 3 objectives: drive the decentralization of financial resource governance, catalyze the design of project portfolios for systemic change, and support the transition to a regenerative economy. BFFs have 12 attributes, the first of which is that they aim to align financial flows with living systems principles and Indigenous wisdom. We believe BFFs can become the connective tissue between increasingly concentrated pools of financial resources, locked in the extractive economy, and the mycelial web of regenerative projects and organizations around the world. BFFs can enable integrated capital raised from a variety of sources to flow to aggregated portfolios of systemically coordinated regenerative projects in bioregions. Through BFFs, we believe we can put finance in service to life. Today, my incredible co-founder Edward West and I are also launching the The BioFi Project with our epic team (see comments). The BioFi Project is a collective dedicated to supporting bioregional organizing teams around the world to turn the recommendations in the book into action through designing, building, and implementing BFFs. Next steps: If you are a bioregion that believes your place is ready for a BFF and wants our support, please fill out the expression of interest form on our website. If you would like to learn more about BFFs and engage in peer-to-peer learning and collaboration, sign up for the BioFi Community of Practice on Hylo. It will be stewarded by Tyler Wakefield. You can also sign up for our newsletter. BFFs were born out of and aim to support the web of interdependent efforts of the broader bioregional and regenerative movement, which is decentralized, fractal, and emergent. This effort took a village and will in its next stage too! I could not be more grateful for the overwhelming support I have received (acknowledgements in comments). We believe that everyone has a role to play in catalyzing bioregional regeneration and hope that you will join us on this journey. Read the e-book and learn more at: www.biofi.earth (paperback and Kindle versions will be available for purchase next week). Press release and press kit linked in the comments. #bioregionalism #biofi #regeneration #biodiversity #regenerativeeconomy #decentralization #financeinservicetolife
