🌊 Coastal regions are amongst the most productive and biodiverse environments, yet they are experiencing progressive degradation and escalating risks. 🏖 🦀 Nature restoration in European coastal zones is valuable to many economic sectors in society, but we lack the tools to translate that value to attract investors or have beneficiaries of ecosystem services pay for them. 👉 How are we going to upscale nature restoration 🌍🐟 🦆 in coastal areas from pilot to coastal zones? 🌊 🏖 👉 How can we broaden the funding base (from small amounts of public funding) by developing innovative financial arrangements that pay for all the ecosystem services that are actually provided? 💳 💰 💹 💸 Including better collaboration and dialogue? 🤝 We investigate this in the European Commission funded 🌊 #RESTCOAST Horizon Innovative Action project. I presented a first peek of our deliverable: #Finance arrangements, market analysis, business plan propositions and financial scalability plans for coastal restoration at the (9) Pilots and beyond". I'm excited to share my role in a groundbreaking initiative: the ecosystem mapping of Kenya's Space Sector! 🚀🇰🇪 This crucial project, a collaboration between the Kenya Space Agency, RIIS - Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability, and UK International Development through the The RISA Fund, is paving the way for investments and technological advancement in the space sector. Last week, we launched review report from the Kenyan Space Innovation Ecosystem mapping process and I was happy to reconnect with friends and colleagues in the sector such as Charles Mwangi, Victor Otieno Agolla Kimani Nyoike Njeri Maina. A. Representing my industry, I also had the tough task of mapping my contribution, which spans the intersection of PR, climate action, and space technology – a unique position that allows me to drive meaningful change. From investor relations and stakeholder engagement to crisis management and resource mobilization, I'm leveraging communication strategies to highlight how space technologies can accelerate our transition to a more just and sustainable future. Key aspects of my role include: 1) Amplifying the role of space data in climate monitoring and environmental protection 2) Facilitating dialogue between tech innovators, policymakers, and communities 3) Mobilising resources for projects that use space tech in sustainable agriculture and natural resource management 4) Managing crisis communication to ensure transparent and responsible sector growth But the space sector isn't just about economic growth – it's a catalyst for a just transition. It offers opportunities for: 1) Creating green jobs and up-skilling our youth 2) Enhancing food security through the expansion of precision agriculture 3) Improving natural disaster prediction and response 4) Promoting responsible stewardship of our natural resources including soils, forests, endangered species (such as with the Mountain Bongo partnership with Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy), ground and surface water and many more. 🌿 Do you know how the #GreenScape CE project is revolutionising urban sustainability with innovative solutions? The project tackles climate change challenges by integrating green infrastructure (GI) into urban areas, focusing on both climate action and governance aspects. Here's how we're making a difference: 🗺️ Using environmental and spatial data, the project is mapping current and potential GI areas in pilot cities. This visual tool highlights areas vulnerable to urban floods, air pollution, and urban heat islands; 🌱 Through workshops and hackathon-style events, we're strengthening GI capacity and shaping policies to support nature-based solutions (NbS); 📝 The project partners are developing participatory action plans for implementing NbS in urban areas. These plans address common climate challenges and propose evolving solutions, shifting away from obsolete grey infrastructure; 🌟 By showcasing good-practice examples and developing a transnational strategy, we're building a pipeline of promising NbS projects across the region. This enables replication and exploitation of successful NbS initiatives. Join us in transforming urban landscapes into resilient, sustainable environments! Together, we can make a lasting impact on climate change and build greener, healthier cities. 🌳 #MakingGreyCitiesGreener #GreenScapeCE #cooperationiscentral #madewithinterreg #Interreg Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme - North West Croatia Regional Energy and Climate Agency (REGEA) - Ambiente Italia S.r.l. - Etifor | Valuing Nature - City of Zagreb / Grad Zagreb - GRÜNSTATTGRAU - Andrija Stampar Teaching Institute of Public Health - alda* - European Association for Local Democracy - Warsaw Municipality - Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia - Municipality of Szeged
