I had the privilege of interviewing an incredible leader in HR, Stacy Oksenberg, Chief Human Resources & Strategy Officer for the YMCA of Greater San Antonio. She is a passionate advocate for aligning personal values with the company you work for—where your moral and philosophical "north star" is in sync with the organization’s. She emphasizes the importance of continual professional and personal education, believing that staying educated and certified in your area of expertise enhances credibility and equips you to navigate the ever-changing landscapes of HR and learning and development. She also encourages everyone to prioritize their health and well-being, ensuring we bring our best selves to work and home. One profound insight she shared was how the hardest decisions made at the C-suite level always involve people, and HR carries the responsibility of delivering those difficult changes. It takes a unique blend of strength and empathy to excel in HR, and we should all strive for that balance and dedication when serving others as leaders. The full article showcasing Stacy's advice and experiences is coming soon! #HRLeadership #ValueAlignment #ContinualEducation #HealthAndWellbeing #LeadershipDecisions #StrengthAndEmpathy #ProfessionalDevelopment #LearningAndDevelopment #PeopleFirst #LeadershipInsights #YMCA

We are very excited to be back at Hilton Sandton to host our Talent Management & Succession Planning Workshop on the 12th & 13th June 2024. And, they are taking a good look at their people, processes and systems, including creating or revisiting organizational talent management strategies and succession plans. Establishing a well thought out succession plan and talent management strategy is now more important than ever and will continue to be a vital process as the aging workforce move into retirement and skills gaps and shortages that were challenges before COVID-19 persist. This workshop will explore best practices for designing and executing a talent management strategy & an effective succession planning program to help your organization better prepare for workforce disruptions. Succession Planing & The "Key Man" Threat Having a strategic succession plan is vital for every organization to avoid becoming vulnerable to business risks. According to a SHRM survey, 21% of organizations lack a formal succession plan, while 24% rely on informal methods, indicating a significant gap in preparedness. This lack of planning poses a "key man" threat, where the absence of key personnel could severely impact or destabilize the organization. A strategic HR approach includes implementing succession planning through initiatives such as job rotation, on-the-job training, mentoring, and thorough analysis of job roles to assess employees' strengths and weaknesses. #HR #Succession #SHRM #Business #TalentHS

I often get asked at events, “What do you do?” I would love to be asked, “Why do you do what you do?” as it would allow me to explain my passion more easily. I founded Starfish People HR with a simple yet profound belief: that small, purposeful actions can create lasting change. Inspired by the Starfish Story and Simon Sinek’s philosophy of purpose, I wanted to offer more than just HR services. My goal was to partner with businesses to build healthier workplaces where people feel valued, engaged, and motivated to give their best. It’s not just about managing HR processes; it’s about making a positive impact. Through bespoke HR support, training, and recruitment, I aim to help organisations navigate the complexities of people management with compassion and integrity. I am blessed that our testimonials seem to support my vision so far, affirming that our approach is truly making a difference, one starfish at a time.
