As regulars at the Hello Tomorrow Summit, we’ve come to expect nothing less than brilliance, but last week’s event that transformed Paris into a buzzing hive of the world's foremost deep tech luminaries, founders, investors, and industrialists truly exceeded expectations. 🔥 Within this week we: - Benjamin Tincq led a panel on critical minerals with Julia Davourie(Convergent Ventures), Eric Dusseux (Breakthrough Energy Ventures), and Lilian Schwich (cylib) - Hosted amazing breakfast event with over 100 attendees in collaboration with Kiko Ventures - Had a great time attending side events from Contrarian Ventures daphni Extantia Toyota Ventures Fifty Years DCVC Climate Salad Norrsken VC EQT Ventures Vsquared Ventures TOMORROW DeepTechXL Positron Ventures - Enjoyed pitches from tozero Robeauté Jurata Thin Film and were delighted to see the amazing women leading those hard tech companies! - The deeptech ecosystem still has a long way to go - from strenghtening collaboration between startups with large industrials, to having more capital to deploy for #FOAK, to ensuring the right practical advices for scientist-founders at the early stages. But building Marble, and seeing our portfolio companies in action - pitching, hiring and fundraising - was the best testament of what we have been doing…and ought to do more. We’re just getting started, let’s build more radical climate deeptech ventures together! #TechCrunch2024 Day 1 Recap! It was everything I hoped. Started the morning strong with a track session. ↳ Then headed straight to the TechCrunch event. And it did not disappoint. Highlights included: 1) Insights on scaling startups with world-class leadership by Clayton Bryan. 2) And maximising investor relations with Brent Murri. 3) Watched M C Spano own the stage on the Startup Pitch Battlefield. Also had the pleasure of having lunch with the amazing Semra Ezedin; ↳ Great convo; even better company. → Attended FOUR post-event networking parties. → Booked meetings with 3x people. → Got in a driverless car to get to an event. Another thing I want to share. Tomorrow the demo day takes place and it is always an event that fascinates me. Why? Because founders proactively show their solution to the ecosystem. The difficulties and obstacles are forgotten for a few minutes. Everything is focused on the positive side. Because yes they make impact. The journey of building something is what founders have to admire. That's easier said than done. I know. Well, tomorrow I'll hear pitches from inspiring founders again. And I'm looking forward to it. Great session this week by our creative director, Mick Mooney, on the Essential Art of Presenting. Here's Mick's top insights from the presentation: Some of the key insights shared included: 😎 The more patterns the audience recognises, the more likely they will let their brains run on autopilot. People have been in countless presentations. That equates to a huge amount of pattern recognition. You need to scramble these patterns to help them reset and have a more active attitude. Start with icebreakers that are fresh and different to the norm. Get people moving. Aim to evoke emotion in your audience to draw them into a more active decision-making mindset. 😎 Presentation success is defined by 'connection, not completion'. It's not about getting through all your slides. It's about how successful you were in making a connection with your audience. 😎 Metaphors are the single greatest communication tool you can use to make your message easily understood and sticky in the minds of your audience. When planning your presentation, ask yourself, can I use a metaphor to explain this complex idea/point? 😎 Use stories to reinforce the ideas and metaphors you use. If you introduce a metaphor, think of what personal story you can share that brings more context to the point and helps build rapport with the audience. Stories help people feel they like, know, and trust you a little bit more (and as a result, will feel a little bit more inclined to do business with you). 😎 Be brave. This comes back to the 'connection, not completion' focus. If you want to connect with an audience, you have to really put yourself into your presentation, focus on connection, feel when it's working, and also feel when it's not! The better you get at feeling the connection in the room, the stronger a presenter you will become over time. 😎 Finally, adopt the mindset that your slides are not the presentation; YOU are the presentation. How you turn up matters more than how fancy your slides look. Your energy, intentions, and how you engage, connect, and lead the room are what people will remember. 🙄 There were some other essential insights into the art of presenting, but I'm about to run out of room in this post! Thanks again to everyone who attended and to those who are already putting into practice what they learned. That's a great outcome.
