About us
Making our homes and buildings more energy efficient is crucial in the transition to a low-carbon future. An estimated 75% of EU building stock is energy inefficient. The renovation of public and private buildings is an essential action and prioritised in the European Green Deal. The goal of the HORIS project is to improve the energy efficiency of residential buildings and reduce energy poverty. HORIS will create a digital one-stop-shop (OSS) with the aim of empowering homeowners during the home renovation process. Homeowners face several key barriers when deciding to retrofit their properties, such as uncertainty and lack of trust about reported energy savings. In addition, they also must choose a home renovation professional and navigate the complexities of the financial process. The OSS will focus on helping homeowners make decisions on improving energy efficiency; renewable energy solutions and identify support to reduce energy poverty. The Green Menu will simplify the home renovation process – by providing homeowners with relevant and credible information and helping them identify the best and most sustainable options. The HORIS project will build on the success of established tools like the ‘Self Scan’ developed by De Groene Grachten. By offering financial, legal and technical solutions, HORIS will facilitate a smooth customer journey, offering homeowners support on finding renovation professionals and guidance about financial schemes. The project will engage with small and medium sized stakeholders, including local and regional public authorities and non-profit organisations and establish a network of approved home renovation service providers. Initially, the OSS will be set up in Italy, Spain and Portugal with the ambition of replicating in additional countries if needed. HORIS, by generating multiple social, environmental, and economic benefits, is a unique opportunity for climate neutrality.

🌍 Strengthening the One-Stop Shop Community in Italy EU Peers has brought together diverse stakeholders from across Italy, engaging them in discussions aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the one-stop shop (OSS) concept supporting home energy renovation. In the first half of 2024, four dynamic meetings - hosted by Regione Piemonte and ENEA (Italy’s National Energy Agency) - brought together diverse voices to discuss the challenges, achievements, and the future of OSSs across Italy. 📣 New interview! Sofia-Natalia Boemi shares her expertise on the energy transition with the #JUSTEM project. As the Head of the Energy and Climate Action Department in Western Macedonia, Sofia-Natalia Boemi has extensive experience working in just transition regions. Her field experience provides valuable insights into implementing fair transition strategies on the ground. 💡 #JUSTEM picked her brain on the importance of education in empowering communities as they transition away from fossil fuels and as a strategy to tackle energy poverty 📚 . "Education must serve as a tool for social mobility, enabling individuals to break out of cycles of poverty." 🔎 Sofia-Natalia was also one of the people involved in setting up Greece’s first one-stop-shop for energy poverty. One-stop shops serve as community-centered hubs, they can help get everyone on board with the just transition and ensure no one is left behind. The EU Peers project is dedicated to enhancing and promoting the Integrated Home Renovation Services (IHRS) concept as a vital tool to significantly boost the residential renovation rate across Europe. At the heart of EU Peers is the Community of Practice, designed to foster collaboration among practitioners to tackle common challenges in home renovation. This community serves as a dynamic hub, offering various entry points and participation opportunities for all members, including One-Stop Shops and other stakeholders involved in Integrated Home Renovation Services. 🔑 Key Features of the EU Peers Community: Community Platforms - The structure comprises seven dedicated platforms for nine priority countries (Italy, France, Spain, Hungary, Ireland, and the Baltic countries—Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) plus one for all other EU countries. Regular Learning Activities - Each platform hosts ongoing peer exchange and learning activities to share knowledge and best practices. Networking Events - EU Peers facilitates both in-person and online networking events for capacity building among members. Mentoring Program - A dedicated mentoring initiative supports the establishment of new One-Stop Shop initiatives, ensuring effective implementation of IHRS. Advocacy and Policy Recommendations - The project actively works to enhance the framework conditions for IHRS through advocacy, policy dialogue, and collaboration with market stakeholders.
