About us

As a practice we seek to deliver architecture that is carefully considered, site specific and enriches the lives of those who occupy it. Since launching in 2005, our Hamilton based practice has been pursuing architecture through a diverse range of project types and budgets, from urban spaces to workplaces, private houses to holiday retreats and the rejuvenation of overlooked undervalued buildings. These projects have presented opportunities to enhance a sense of community and create spaces for people to enjoy. We believe that relationships and collaboration are integral to a successful outcome. With attention to detail and a passion for design, our aim is to provide our clients with unique, refined, quality architecture.

The winner of the 2024 Sir Ian Athfield Award for Housing is Hills Residences by Edwards White Architects Ltd 🏆 Hills Residences is an example of pushing boundaries, a famously Athfieldian quality.  Once a laboratory, this project demonstrates how buildings otherwise slated for demolition can be successfully re-used. It shows that multi-residential projects can cater for diverse users and tastes and succeed as a piece of city-making through densification, connecting, stitching and imagining beyond the site.  Perhaps most importantly, it's part of a wider project by the architects to energise Kirikiriroa Hamilton through connection to its river. 📷 Simon Wilson #nzia #nzarchitecture #namedawards #congratulations

  • Hills Residences - 2024 Winner of the Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZ Institute of Architects Sir Ian Athfield Award for Housing. . To take home this award was an amazing surprise. To be recognised alongside previous winners who have set a high benchmark for innovation and excellence is an incredible honour. Jury Citation - "Ath was a thinker, maker, agitator and larger-than-life figure whose legacy remains not just in his eponymous practice but throughout Aotearoa New Zealand, the Pacific, Australia and beyond. • Hamilton Gardens Visitor Arrival Centre // 2024 . What an Honour it has been to design the new Arrival Centre for such a beloved destination in our city. The Hamilton Gardens have been an iconic attraction for years, and it’s a privilege to be part of the growth. Partnering with local Mana Whenua, cultural artists and the incredible team at the Gardens, we believe the new entry precinct is a unique expression of Aotearoa architecture and reflects the identity and narrative of its place. Inspired by the palisade fencing of Te Parapara Garden and traditional māori garden tools, our design blends crafted detailing with the warmth and familiarity of timber. This space creates a multi-directional, welcoming place that draws visitors in from the moment they arrive. As the Gardens continue to evolve, this revitalised arrival centre serves as a new visual marker and gateway to the themed gardens. Our hope is this new civic space will continue welcoming many more generations to come. A big thanks to all the incredible collaborators who helped bring this project to life. • It's been incredible to see both the new Te Ara Pekapeka bridge and the Taurapa pedestrian bridge being embraced by the community since their recent opening. Being part of a project of this scale has been a rewarding experience, and seeing it come to life is a proud moment for our team.  . Te Ara Pekapeka stands strong on the eastern bank, a single pier carrying the impressive weight of 3000 tonnes of steel as it gracefully spans the Waikato River. Reflecting the woven strands of Kete and the fertile land surrounding it, the intricate latticework of the support pier creates a network that elegantly balances strength and finesse. .
