🔎 From Nuclear Safety to Construction: Building a Safer Future Jason Boyle FRSA FRIBA, SECBE's board member, examines how the construction sector can learn from the nuclear industry’s exemplary safety culture while reflecting on the tragic lessons of Grenfell. "Safety isn’t just compliance - it’s culture." Key Takeaways from Jason’s Blog: ▪️ Nuclear Excellence in Safety: The nuclear industry sets the gold standard with transparency, continuous learning, and accountability at every level. ▪️ Grenfell’s Hard Lessons: The tragedy exposed systemic failings—cost-cutting, lack of accountability, and ignoring warning signs—that must never be repeated. ▪️ A New Era for Construction: Prioritising safety over cost, empowering workers to raise concerns, and embedding accountability across the supply chain are critical steps to fostering a robust safety culture. Jason reminds us that safety must be at the core of every decision in construction to protect lives and build trust. 👉 Read Jason's full blog here: https://lnkd.in/eyiiTeE6 #SafetyCulture #ConstructionLeadership #LessonsFromGrenfell #ContinuousImprovement #ConstructingExcellence

🔎 Building Safety in Focus: The Golden Thread 🏗️ We are delighted to feature Jimmy Collins, one of our dedicated SECBE board members, who has shared his thoughts on the critical role of the Golden Thread in improving building safety and compliance in his latest blog. 🌟 "The right people, having the right information, at the right time." 🌟 Jimmy reflects on the lessons learned following the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the subsequent transformation in how the construction sector manages and shares vital information. Highlighting the Building Safety Act and Dame Judith Hackitt’s foundational report, Jimmy emphasizes the need for a robust, transparent, and accessible Golden Thread of Information throughout a building’s lifecycle. 📢 Key Insights: The Golden Thread ensures vital safety and compliance data is accessible to the right people, from design to handover and beyond. Recommendations from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry (Part 2) reinforce the importance of accurate, centralized data for materials and systems. While progress has been made, the sector must take more decisive action to deliver on the Golden Thread’s potential to improve safety and accountability. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e7bzfnvC Let’s work together to turn these insights into action and build a safer, more transparent future for the construction industry. #GoldenThread #BuildingSafety #ConstructionLeadership #ConstructingExcellence #IndustryInsights

Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS), powered by SECBE, looks to address the risks posed by construction logistics vehicles to vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, improve air quality, reduce congestion and drive operational efficiencies. The CLOCS Standard is a set of requirements for all stakeholders to help ensure safer, leaner and greener construction logistics. It demands collaboration between the construction and fleet sectors to address shared issues and draws together best practice to provide an industry standard that can be implemented by all. Version 5 of the CLOCS Standard is now available, these changes come into full effect on 1st March 2025 so compliance from that point onwards will require adherence to these new requirements. Full details of the changes, as well as a copy of Version 5 of the CLOCS Standard can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eXfCETcu
