We are launched! 18th Nov 2024 will be our landmark day at the University of York. It was wonderful to welcome colleagues, partners and stakeholders to our Launch Event yesterday. We loved hearing about the history of #architecture #heritage and their long associations in #York as a city and at the University of York as an institution. It was a great assembly of talks and discussions about the long legacy of #InstituteOfArchitecturalStudies and its successor #InstituteOfAdvancedArchitecturalStudies(IoAAS) as a pioneering centre of excellence for #heritageConservation in York since its early beginnings. We shared wonderful memories about iconic architecture, architects and the city. We had inspiring conversations with many architects, heritage professionals, and researchers across #York for ideas about the future of #Architecture #Education and #Research. We are blessed to be based in the beautiful York and at such a fantastic institution with wonderful and excellent research around every corner. We are proud to be part of #YorkCommunity. Our next Visible Women's networking lunch is on 11th December in #Leeds. Our guest speaker is Natalie Sarabia-Johnston from Southgate & Sarabia Architects & Constructive Futures, and she will share her story about her early influences, challenges and career development. Natalie has worked in the construction industry for 34 years and established SASA as her second business in Manchester in 2019 and Leeds in 2021. She has been a part time lecturer and tutor at Leeds Beckett University for 22 years and she is a professional RIBA Part 3 examiner. Natalie has delivered strategic development, social housing, industrial, heritage, conservation, education and large regeneration projects, where she has won over 30 regional and national awards for her projects. Earlier this year she set up a not for profit called Constructive Futures CIC with Jenny Kitchen to help get young people from diverse backgrounds into the industry. A buffet-style lunch of meat and cheese platters with bread & salads will be provided. Vegan/vegetarian options are available. Please confirm dietary requirements upon booking. Standing together against racism Over the last week, we are again reminded of the unparalleled importance of respecting the dignity and rights of every individual regardless of race, religion, ability, sexuality or gender. This is and always will be our key value. Our love and support goes out to all the families and communities affected by the latest hate riots by people trying to destroy our peace and unity.  We know that expressing our sadness and outrage is not enough. Action must be taken towards a better tomorrow. Just an update from last weekend - an incredible achievement at our recent Clubathon! We raised over £1,600 for Women's Whispers supporting women and children fleeing domestic abuse. This event honored the memory of Audrey Hutchinson, who passed away earlier this year after a short battle with cancer. Grateful for the generous support and donations – every contribution makes a meaningful difference.
