🌍🌿 Reflecting on #COP16 and the End of a Remarkable Journey 🌿🌍 After two intense weeks in Colombia, the CBD COP16 officially concluded on November 2nd, marking another milestone in advancing the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (#KMGBF). This also marks the conclusion of our Post2020 Biodiversity Framework - EU support project. Over the past six years, we’ve worked tirelessly to support global #biodiversity goals, and we are incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made together. During #COP16Colombia, we had the privilege of coordinating activities not only at the #EUPavilion but also across impactful venues like the Faith Hub, Women Hub, UN Hub, and Place Québec, alongside official side-events, the Science Policy Forum, and various press conferences. As we wrap up our final newsletter, it offers a reflection on our journey since 2018, filled with collaborative efforts and shared achievements. 📬 You can explore it here: https://lnkd.in/eadiGDen This December, as our project officially draws to a close, our team would like to extend deepest gratitude to our invaluable partners — public and private sectors, State representatives, Subnational and Local Governments (#SNLGs), Youth leaders, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, women, academia, businesses, and financial institutions. Your unwavering commitment, support, and enthusiasm were instrumental in our shared successes, showcasing the power of a 𝐰𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞-𝐨𝐟-𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡.

#COP16 COLOMBIA OUTCOMES 🍃 In the coming days, we will be sharing some of the key outcomes and milestone agreements from COP16. 🌏 In a landmark decision at COP 16, Parties adopted a new Programme of Work on Article 8(j) and other provisions of the Convention related to indigenous peoples and local communities. This transformative programme sets out specific tasks to ensure the meaningful contribution of indigenous peoples and local communities towards the three objectives of the Convention ((a) the conservation of biological diversity, b) the sustainable use of biological diversity, and c) the fair and equitable sharing of benefits), as well as the implementation of the KMGBF. Through this Programme, rights, contributions and traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples and local communities are further embedded in the global agenda. Parties also agreed to establish a new permanent subsidiary body on article 8j and other Provisions, with its modus operandi to be developed over the next two years. The new Subsidiary Body is expected to elevate issues related to the implementation of Article 8j and enhance the engagement and participation of indigenous peoples and local communities in all convention processes. A further decision was taken to recognize the role of people of African descent, comprising collectives embodying traditional lifestyles, in implementing the Convention and in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
