If you're someone who has a VI friend or family member we'd love to hear from you (and if you're VI yourself, please pass this on to your friends and family!). Following the successful launch of our Wellbeing Service in January 2023, we have been able to support our members to manage their mental health through talking therapy with our in-house counsellor David. Although we still have 12 months of funding remaining, we are already starting to think about our next application for continued funding, and how we might be able to expand the service to help even more people. As such, we are gathering data to help us decide how we might do this. In the past year, it has become evident that family and friends of people living with VI might also benefit from some dedicated wellbeing support, and we’d really appreciate feedback from those loved ones. We've got a short survey you can complete, which you can find here: https://lnkd.in/e6xHYhYA It should only take you a few minutes to complete, and your answers will be very valuable to us. Thank you! #AccessibleWorthing #Worthing #VisionImpaired #Blind

There’s plenty of theories on where the suicide stigma started… religion… law… language… Perhaps, it started with how hard it is to comprehend suicide. Perhaps, it’s hard to believe that someone wants to die when everything you do is centred on ‘living’. Perhaps, it’s too heartbreaking to consider that our loved ones are in so much pain, that we are not enough for them to want to live. Perhaps, it’s easier to write this complexity off as sin or insanity. And perhaps, this complexity manifested itself in religion, law, and language, perpetuating the problem. If so, does the solution for removing stigma sit in our ability to empathise with those suffering? And if so, does the responsibility rest with the people who’ve suffered, to tell their stories? I think so but I don’t know. Hopefully we get closer to the solution on November 20!

CANS conference on supporting wellbeing in BAME communities has given me a lot to think about on the bus home. My main (among many) takeaways are: 1) Leaders set the tone - it’s the role of our leaders to help us feel safe. Their role is to go beyond condemnation of racism and to value, promote & celebrate diversity. 2) The importance of culturally relevant treatments. And of cultural humility (a new phrase for me) in addition to cultural competence. 3) If I heard it right there has been a 182% increase in faith/religion motivated incidents (and no I didn’t leave out a decimal point!) 4) Trauma informed is a short phrase for a massive shift in how we work & think. And it can’t be just another box to tick. Our mental health support services have a long way to go to meet the needs of our WHOLE community in a proactive and sustainable way. Todays event & discussions now need to ripple their way out into policy & practice.

This past Wednesday, November 13th, I had the privilege of joining PRA Group for an insightful discussion on the critical topics of men's health, mental health stigmas, and the societal barriers that often prevent men from seeking help. It was a powerful conversation that explored common health challenges faced by men and how we can collectively work to reduce stigma and create a more supportive environment for mental wellness. A big thank you to the PRA Group (Nasdaq: PRAA) team for hosting such an important event and for fostering an open dialogue on these crucial issues. It was an honor to contribute to the conversation. As we continue this important work, I’m available to help individuals or organizations dive deeper into these topics. Whether you're looking to understand men's mental health challenges more deeply or exploring strategies for reducing stigma, feel free to reach out. Let’s continue the conversation and work toward lasting change in mental health support. #MensHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #BreakingStigma #Therapy #Support #MentalWellness #PRAGroup #Healthcare #Community #WellBeing #OpenDialogue #AvailableToHelp #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthSupport #MenTalkToo #MentalHealthForMen #WellnessJourney #StigmaFree #SelfCare #TherapistsOfLinkedIn #MentalHealthProfessionals #MaleMentalHealth #MentalHealthResources #BreakingBarriers #SpeakUpForMentalHealth #HealingTogether #PositiveMentalHealth #InclusiveWellness #MenDeserveCare
