  • Cleanaway Organics Eastern Creek (COEC), our food organics garden organics (FOGO) treatment facility in Western Sydney, is playing a key role in recovering resources from food waste, in line with government targets to halve the amount of organics going to landfill by 2030. FOGO sent for processing in facilities like Cleanaway Organics Eastern Creek is turned into compost that can be reused in agriculture, reducing the amount of harmful emissions from the organic material that would have otherwise decomposed in landfill. Learn more from Ash Turner, State Manager Resource Recovery, who has over 10 years of experience in the industry, in The Guardian’s deep dive into our FOGO processing capabilities and find out how you can contribute towards a sustainable future by sorting your waste correctly. #sustainablefuture https://lnkd.in/gWgJ8f79

  • Congratulations to our JV partners Circular Plastics Australia for being awarded Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO)’s Improved Recycling System Award. This recognition is a testament to the groundbreaking impact of two PET plastic recycling plants that can each recycle up to 1 billion PET beverage bottles a year.   At Cleanaway, we’re proud to be part of this partnership, which shows what can be achieved through collaboration and innovation in the circular economy. Initiatives like these are critical to tackling the challenges of plastic waste while advancing the 2025 National Packaging Targets.   The APCO Annual Awards recognise organisations that are leading the way to develop a circular economy for packaging in Australia. A big congratulations to all finalists and winners who are setting the benchmark for sustainable packaging, recycling systems improvements, and education initiatives. • Taku Ide, Head of Carbon at Cleanaway, recently spoke at the Alternative Fuel Summit about how HVO100 provides a pathway to real emissions reduction through our existing fleet. Hosted by Robert Cavicchiolo, Carbon Solutions Manager at Viva Energy Australia, they discussed the challenges and opportunities that renewable diesel presents and how a collaborative ecosystem in the market can work together to make HVO100 a viable option.   “From a decarbonisation and emissions standpoint, diesel usage is locked in for the next 10 to 15 years because those assets (existing fleet) have a long lifespan. The challenge is finding ways to decarbonise while still relying on diesel assets today. The demonstration shows that renewable diesel can be this solution and we continue to work with customers, partners and government towards broader implementation.”   Cleanaway’s fleet decarbonisation strategy, led by Jeroen Wassenaar, Head of Innovation, has demonstrated that HVO100 provides equivalent fuel consumption, uptime and performance to fossil diesel. Thanks to Victorian Transport Association - VTA for hosting the event. #sustainablefuture Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/gydv4yHN

The Department for Education, South Australia (DfE) recently won two significant Government awards: the 2024 CIPS - The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) Sustainability Project of the Year Award and the 2024 CIPS Overall Project of the Year Award. Within these awards, Cleanaway was recognised for valuable contributions in the development, implementation, and success, of DfE achieving 100% landfill diversion in Metropolitan schools and for the significant improvements in landfill diversion and resource recovery in regionally located schools.   Cleanaway has enjoyed a valued relationship with the Department for Education (DfE) South Australia for over 35 years however in early 2023, began providing expanded services as part of a new contract. Previously, Cleanaway serviced approximately one-third of DfE sites, primarily handling general waste services and few paper and cardboard recycling services. Now, Cleanaway services all SA public schools - 476 sites across 12 regions statewide, providing a complete waste management and resource recovery system, from paper and cardboard recycling, commingled recycling through to organics recycling.   Tailored Greenius modules (Cleanaway’s waste and recycling e-learning system), aided the success of landfill diversion, ensuring that students, teachers and cleaning contractors understood the new source separation systems.   Congratulations again to the DfE and we look forward to many more years of working together. #sustainablefuture

  • Cleanaway attended the Industry Safety Forum in Toowoomba organised by Safer Together where General Manager - Solid Waste Services QLD Aaron Carter spoke about “Safety Culture Toolkit” together with Danni Geers from Chevron. Aaron used our HSE Culture program as a case study and spoke at length about our HSE improvement journey supported by our 5-year roadmap and HSE Culture Framework. The Framework describes the behaviours that focus on keeping each other, our communities and the environment safe at Cleanaway and provides us with a simple, common language across our 350 sites nationally. Aaron’s advice to HSE practitioners was, “Be patient, don’t expect everything to work and to always keep listening and evolving. Making a real difference to HSE culture takes time and requires daily practice at an individual, team and organisational level.” We look forward to continued collaboration to embed best practice HSE programs across the industry. #sustainablefuture
