Australian Beer, Gin, Cider & Ginger Beer. Proudly Independent Since 2012. B Corp Certified. Serve The People.

About us

Like most good stories, ours started over a beer. We started Young Henrys in Newtown in 2012, after co-founders Oscar McMahon and Richard Adamson felt that the Australian beer scene should be more adventurous, innovative and fun. With a small brew kit, we set about ensuring no local would every go thirsty again! Since then, we’ve grown to make beer, cider, gin and whisky and serve the people across the country. We stand by our unwavering vision to keep things local, reduce our environmental impact and collaborate with like-minded, passionate and creative people, to help turn up the volume on diverse voices in our community.

  • Massive congrats to all those who made it onto the Honour Board for its unveiling last week... even bigger thanks to those who were able to join us and share the love.

Last Wednesday we hosted 100 of our closest mates in the Young Henrys brewery for the unveiling of the 8 Years Proudly Pouring Honour Board. This is something we’ve been talking about internally for a couple of years now, as a unique, very YH way of expressing our gratitude towards all the awesome pub owners who have backed us. As those in the industry know, taps are bloody hard to get for independent brewers, and even harder to keep. The big guys are good at dangling huge rebates; and between them, they’re now locking away virtually 100% of a pub's tap real estate, which reminds me of back when I started in this game with Little Creatures 15 years ago. This only makes it more special to have been able to launch the Honour Board with the names of 67 venues (bars/pubs) between Brisbane and Melbourne, that have had a Young Henrys beer or cider consistently pouring for 8 years or more. Some of the venues have had our products on since we opened the doors over 12 years ago, and some just snuck in… but all are equally important to our business, and we are just as grateful for each and every one of them. This will be an annual event, adding names each year and bringing everyone back together to celebrate. Once their name is etched in gold… it’s there to stay, and they get a start at the party forever. Can’t wait to see who’s next!!!

  • We’re stoked to announce the launch of our new ‘Remastered’ series of beers, kicking off with OG core range member Real Ale! In a nod to the brewers, the drinkers and the 200+ beers that have helped shape us, the Remastered series will see us bringing back pre-loved YH beers in super small batches, to be tapped at select venues across the land. Back for a good time, not a long time, Real Ale was one of the three ‘founding’ YH beers first brewed back in 2012. Our take on an English Best Bitter, it sits at a delightful 4% ABV with a long, smooth bitterness from an all-Aussie hop lineup. With a solid malt backbone and sweet, toffee notes, this brew holds a special spot in the hearts of many at YH who have long appealed for its return. Now pouring at a handful of venues, click below to learn more about Real Ale and find a tap near you. https://lnkd.in/gM4wVY8F

  • On Tuesday, May 21, our very own Oscar, Will and Jeremy (pictured) will be forgoing the warmth of their respective beds, parking their cars on the rooftop of Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre, and setting up camp for the night. Why you ask? Because this sleeping situation is all too familiar for about 1 in 85 Australians on any given evening, and we reckon that’s way too many! A fundraising event close to our hearts, Newtown Neighbourhood Centre's annual Car Boot Sleep Out aims to support the homeless community in our Inner West backyard by raising funds for the group's first-response outreach program. With Sydney, and much of the country in the grip of a cost-of-living crisis, their frontline efforts have never been more important. Keen to get involved? You can donate to our YH Sleep Out team at the link below. In return for any donation, we’re shouting a pint at our Newtown Tasting Bar! Simply show your donation confirmation or receipt at the bar to redeem. https://lnkd.in/eYNkpDSX

  • It’s our B Corp B-day! 🌏 🍺 April 2024 marks a full year since we proudly certified as a B Corp; joining a bunch of companies from across the globe in a commitment to a better social and environmental impact. B Corp certification and maintenance takes a lot of work from a lot of folks. We’ve been quietly chipping away over the past 12 months at improving our efforts across each of the core pillars, ensuring they become further embedded in our YH DNA. To us, this milestone offers the opportunity to not only review and reflect on where we’re at, but to remind ourselves of the reasons we chose to become a B Corp, and to invite other businesses who may share similar values to join us on this rewarding journey. • We're proud to introduce the Young Henrys Classic range, available now exclusively at BWS and Dan Murphy's. Showcasing the best of Australian craftsmanship and ingredients, the Classic range is a modern take on classic Australian beers consisting of Classic Crisp; a low carb, mid strength lager, Classic Premium; a premium lager created with high quality ingredients and Classic XPA; a refreshing and well-balanced sessionable XPA. The Classic range is the next step in our ongoing mission to 'Serve The People'. Brewed for our oldest mates and for new mates alike, these beers are a nod to the styles that have stood the test of time, and the ones that unite us. As such, to help us launch the Classic range, we called on our broad community of mates, regulars, staff and collaborators to come and share these beers with us. Individual, original, and ‘classic’ in their own right, these are beers for the people. A big ol' cheers to the Endeavour Group team for joining us on this epic new adventure, to our talented friends at Yeah Rad for shooting the campaign, to Paul Tooth for the beautifully designed cans, and once again, Jesse Searls and the YH brew team for delivering THREE amazing drops!

A collaboration many years in the making, today we're proud to launch our limited release Swing Juice Country Club XPA and accompanying apparel range with our good friends Birds of Condor. Upon meeting the legends from the Byron Bay-based golf brand, it was immediately clear that we not only shared similar interests in things like music, art, skate and surf, but shared the same passion for creating an authentic, inclusive, alternate culture within our respective domains. Coming in at a very sessionalbe 4% ABV, Swing Juice is a brewed to be a trusty caddie from tee time to the 19th. Bursting with notes of citrus and pine from both Aussie and American hops, it's crisp on the palate with a firm malt body and approachable bitterness. Golf, like beer, is a uniter of mates, so we wanted to make sure we brought a couple of our closest along for the ride. Shoutout to Sindy Sinn for the epic artwork, to the members of local punk band FANGZ for modelling the gear, and to our pals at Yeah Rad for shooting the campaign. The beer is available now for a limited time from Cellarbrations, Porter's Liquor, Thirsty Camel Bottleshops, The Bottle-O and IGA Liquor stores, with the apparel range available from birdsofcondor.com. • “It is viewed as a bit more of a physical, male-typical job so it took me a bit more time to give myself the permission to take the plunge." Shoutout to Danielle from Sydney Brewery and Emma from Mountain Culture Beer Co for sharing their stories of leaving the corporate world for brewing careers. If you're a female, female-identifying, or non-binary person interested in pursuing a career in beer, our Young Henrys Brewing Scholarship in partnership with TAFE NSW is still taking applications.
