We are excited to expand our disability inclusion work in #Malawi with new funding under the USAID Ana Patsogolo Activity (APA)! APA works to reduce new #HIV infections among adolescents and young adults. Approximately 86% of persons with disabilities in Malawi live in underserved rural areas. We will promote collaboration and accountability among government and civil society actors to ensure inclusive access to health services for persons with disabilities. This builds on Malawi's 2024 adoption of the Persons with Disabilities Act, and World Education's extensive #disabilityinclusion work globally. https://brnw.ch/21wPdlY #IDPD2024 #WorldAIDSDay

Our partnership with Adobe enhances our efforts to make delivering #HIV care to adolescents and caregivers more efficient for community case workers. After using Liquid Mode to digitize job aids, case workers are able to share vital health information more quickly and confidentially during home visits. In 3 months, case workers reported using the digital job aids more than 23,000 times and 94% reported that it was easier to find information. We're at the Global Digital Health Forum this week to share more: https://lnkd.in/eHbNVXAS #GDHF2024 #WorldAIDSDay2024 #GivingTuesday

Education is key to reducing #HIV infections. "Research shows that higher completion rates significantly reduce HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women... That’s how powerful it is to keep girls in school," shared JSI's Patience Masara Ndlovu with the WHO Foundation. In countries such as South Africa, Eswatini, and Zimbabwe, completion rates above 50% at lower secondary level are associated with a 70% reduction in new infections. In this article, Patience speaks to the impact of ensuring girls and young women progress through their education, receive economic strengthening support, and build life skills to make healthy choices. https://lnkd.in/gT3RA5Xi #WorldAIDSDay2024
What role does education play in the fight to end HIV? In our latest article, Winnie Byanyima and Patience Masara Ndlovu discuss how empowering young women through education and rights-based approaches is crucial to health equity and ending HIV. #WorldAIDSDay https://bit.ly/3OxHJbW

For children living with #HIV, the physical, social, and financial well-being of their guardians can play a pivotal role in their access to essential health care. We work with partners USAID, Malawi AIDS Counseling Alliance Organization, and others to address these barriers through our project, the Ana Patsogolo Activity, in part by helping establish village savings and loans associations (VSLA). For Hawa, joining her local VSLA in Tisangale #Malawi gave her the chance to take out a loan to start a small business. Her now thriving restaurant enables her to keep her grandchildren, including those living with HIV, well-fed, in school, and on consistent HIV treatment. Initiative → Affiliate → Partner! In 2023, our Bantwana Initiative team in #Uganda established itself as an independent local organization, continuing its work to strengthen community support mechanisms for health and education in affiliation with World Education. Now, World Education and Bantwana Initiative Uganda are partners under the Targeting the Learning Crisis (TLC) program! With the TLC consortium, we’re working to improve academic achievement through targeted instruction. By leveraging both World Education and the Bantwana Initiative’s extensive experience in Uganda, we can equip the education system to meet student needs for many years to come.

The impact of #climatechange on communities is highly context-specific. Our responses should be, too. From rural to urban environments, inside and outside the classroom, communities are building climate resilience: - In #Benin, communities are gathering data on their local ecosystems to reproduce their benefits. - In #Mozambique, communities are receiving grants to fund their projects to create sustainable economic opportunity. - In #Nepal, individuals are sharing their experiences of how climate change exacerbates labor exploitation. - In 5 cities in Asia, students are addressing environmental issues in their communities. We can't do our work alone - our partnerships are key for connecting new communities with new tools. Through our longstanding partnership with Adobe, we've been able to leverage tools to support readability and increase access to vital health materials. In #Malawi, we used Liquid Mode in Adobe Acrobat to digitize job aids for community case workers who relied on costly and complicated paper-based job aids when supporting communities living with #HIV. This made critical health information more accessible-saving time, cutting costs, and driving #healthequity. We’re grateful to be a part of Adobe for Nonprofits, an initiative designed to help provide nonprofits with the tools they need to change the world. At #COP29 through the Global Plan of Action on Education for Biodiversity and at #UNGA through the Declaration on Future Generations, the world made clear their commitment to creating a more sustainable and equitable world for present and future generations. The Declaration on Future Generations recognizes children and youth as agents of change and emphasizes the need to include them in decision-making. In a Global Student Environment Survey, hundreds of young people called for a transformation in education that prioritizes hands-on experiences that connect them to nature. We currently face an array of complex, interconnected challenges that need long-term, youth-centered solutions. We are committed to supporting young people in building the skills and knowledge to respond to these urgent challenges and creating a safer and more prosperous future for all: https://brnw.ch/21wOOBd
